Hong Junpyo, former mayor of Daegu and a presidential primary candidate for the People Power Party, stated on April 19, "Although we are currently in a phase where serious criminals are running rampant, the situation will change once I become the 'Big 1' after the primary."
On the morning of the same day, Hong emphasized on his social networking service (SNS), "When the primary among the 'Small 4' (People Power Party primary candidates) ends, I will become the 'Big 1.' The real presidential race will begin from that point."

He went on to assert, "Uniting the divided public sentiment and ushering in a new era for an advanced nation?the 7th Republic?will become the aspiration of our people."
At the "21st Presidential Candidate 1st Primary Vision Contest" held the previous day at ASSA Art Hall in Gangseo-gu, Seoul, Hong also highlighted the 7th Republic through constitutional revision. He said, "We should introduce a four-year presidential term with the possibility of re-election, establish an elected vice presidency, and implement a bicameral legislature."
He also pledged, "I will protect the lives and property of the people through NATO-style nuclear sharing, achieving nuclear balance between the North and South, and armed peace."
