◆ Visit to LIG Nex1 Gumi Plant
Members of the Industry and Construction Committee received explanations about various advanced defense industry technologies?including precision-guided weapons, surveillance and reconnaissance, avionics, drones, and electronic warfare?at the LIG Nex1 Gumi plant, and toured the production facility. The committee members emphasized the significant impact of the defense industry on the local economy and job creation, and stated that continuous support for related companies is necessary.
◆ Inspection of the Agricultural Produce Distribution Center (APC) Construction Site
The committee members then visited the planned site for the Agricultural Produce Distribution Center (APC) in Irae-ri, Goa-eup. They confirmed that there are still remaining structures containing asbestos and other materials on the adjacent land, which need to be demolished. They also received a report from the relevant department on the progress of the center's construction and future plans.
The committee members pointed out that several issues in the project process require careful review, including the fact that the project budget has nearly doubled compared to the original proposal, that design changes were made simultaneously with the start of construction, and that there are plans to expand the access road.
In particular, they emphasized the need for further consultations between the future operating entity, the Gumi Food Integrated Support Center Foundation, and the Department of Agro-Food Industry, and called for a thorough inspection of the entire project.
The committee members stated, "Since this is a key facility for expanding public food services and securing stable sales channels for agricultural products, discussions on the construction of surrounding infrastructure such as roads, future staffing plans, and public food service distribution measures are still insufficient. Therefore, a comprehensive review of the project, including not only the construction of the center but also future operation plans, is necessary."
