The meeting was attended by 18 members of the Gangwon RISE Committee, including Governor Jintae Kim (co-chairman). Jaeyeon Jeong, President of Kangwon National University, was elected as the new co-chairman to lead the Gangwon RISE project together with Gangwon Province.

Gangwon RISE is a project with the vision of creating a "university-region co-developed global city for future industries," aiming to drive mutual growth between local communities and universities.

The Gangwon RISE Center received a total of 115 project proposals from 13 universities between February 21 and March 24. After document and in-person evaluations by the selection committee, 91 projects were ultimately chosen.

The field receiving the largest amount of support is "Gangwon Strategic Industries," with a total of 32.5 billion KRW allocated. Next, 14.3 billion KRW will be provided for "local settlement-type talent development" projects, and 10 billion KRW for the "Gangwon Startup Hub" initiative.

The selected projects will go through a ten-day objection period and a process to supplement their business plans. In May, agreements will be signed between the Gangwon RISE Center and the universities, officially launching the projects.

Additionally, Gangwon Province plans to conduct an additional open call in May, amounting to 7 billion KRW, including projects that were not selected in this round. This budget includes the remaining funds from the previous evaluation and secured incentives.

Governor Jintae Kim stated, "This meeting is significant as it is the first year of RISE implementation and will determine the projects that each university will carry out over the next five years." He added, "I deeply thank the external evaluation committee members who reviewed the vast amount of materials over five days, staying on site and isolated from outside contact."

Governor Kim further emphasized, "Both RISE and Glocal are being attempted for the first time, so from now on, execution and implementation will be even more important." He urged, "Let Gangwon Province and the universities work closely together in strong cooperation."
