On April 18, Acting President and Prime Minister Han Ducksoo invited the police leadership and frontline officers who maintained public order and ensured the safety of citizens during the Constitutional Court's impeachment trial of former President Yoon Sukyeol to commend them for their service.
That afternoon, at the Prime Minister's official residence in Samcheong-dong, Jongno-gu, Seoul, Han hosted a luncheon and discussion with Lee Hoyoung, Acting Commissioner General of the National Police Agency, Park Hyunsoo, Acting Commissioner of the Seoul Metropolitan Police Agency, and distinguished frontline officers.
This meeting was organized to recognize and encourage police officers who managed the large-scale rallies and protests that continued daily after the National Assembly's impeachment resolution, ensuring that citizens could freely express their opinions while preventing any physical clashes and maintaining public order.
The police officers shared various challenges and experiences they faced on the ground, as well as the tension they felt at rallies and protests held by both pro- and anti-impeachment groups. They also discussed the sense of pride and fulfillment they felt in ensuring that participants could exercise their rights legally and safely.
Acting President Han stated, "In a situation that was extremely sensitive and important for the nation, police officers performed their duties flawlessly," adding, "I hope you will continue to play your role in creating a safe Republic of Korea alongside the people."
