A Total of 100 Million Won Delivered to Five Cities and Counties...
Bringing Hope to Wildfire-Affected Areas
Mayor Lee: "We Will Stand Together Until All Affected Residents Return to Their Daily Lives"
Pohang City personally visited five cities and counties in North Gyeongsang Province that have suffered greatly from wildfire damage, extending a hand of solidarity.
On April 18, a delegation consisting of Mayor Lee Kangdeok, Pohang City Council Chairman Kim Ilman, representatives from the Public Officials Union, the Volunteer Center, and the Hometown Association visited Uiseong, Andong, Yeongyang, Cheongsong, and Yeongdeok in succession, delivering a total of 100 million won in donations.

This donation was made possible by combining 62.5 million won voluntarily raised by Pohang City employees, 10 million won from the city council, 10 million won from the union of public workers, and 17.5 million won from affiliated organizations such as the Facilities Management Corporation.
The total of 100 million won was delivered to each of the five cities and counties visited that day, with each receiving 20 million won.
In addition, a total of 20 million won in donations was also delivered to each city and county, including 10 million won from the Uiseong County Hometown Association in Pohang, 5 million won from the Cheongsong County Hometown Association, and 5 million won from the Yeongyang County Hometown Association.
This visit carries great significance as it goes beyond simple consolation, representing Pohang City's heartfelt gratitude and a declaration of partnership.
Pohang City was able to overcome crises in the past, such as the earthquake and Typhoon Hinnamnor, thanks to donations, manpower, and material support from neighboring cities and counties.
Remembering that support, Pohang was the first to reach out in response to the recent wildfire damage, reaffirming its commitment to mutual cooperation.
During the donation ceremonies held in each region, the delegation listened to reports on the damage, offered words of comfort to residents and public officials, and conveyed Pohang City's intention to take the lead as a 'partner in recovery.'
Mayor Lee Kangdeok emphasized, "Pohang City will stand together so that we can be a pillar of support for each other and help affected residents return to their daily lives. True solidarity and the practice of loving our neighbors mean not turning away from their pain and walking the path of recovery together."
Following this visit, the city plans to hold a 'Wildfire Damage Recovery Support Launch Ceremony' and continue ongoing support activities together with its citizens.
As of April 17, Pohang City had delivered 691 donations totaling 3.4 billion won and 45 shipments of goods worth 233 million won to the Community Chest of Korea and to the affected cities and counties, thanks to the contributions of employees, residents, businesses, and social organizations across the region.
In addition, a total of 57 teams and more than 540 people?including city employees, volunteer organizations, the Marine Corps Veterans Association, the Volunteer Center, and the Medical Center?visited the affected areas to support recovery efforts, provide meal services, and offer medical volunteer work.
