People in Their 40s Top the List at 29.8% (452 People), Those in Their 30s Follow at 27.7% (420 People)
Korea Road Traffic Authority: "The Best Way Is Not to Bring a Car to Drinking Occasions"

A survey conducted among participants of drunk driving traffic safety education asking the reasons for drunk driving revealed that the most common reason was 'lack of substitute drivers or public transportation.'
According to the Korea Road Traffic Authority's survey on March 18th involving 1,518 participants, the top three main causes of drunk driving were 'lack of substitute drivers or public transportation' at 20.7% (314 people), 'a long time had passed after drinking, so they assumed the alcohol had worn off' at 20.4% (309 people), and 'the distance to home was either too close or too far' at 18.1% (275 people).
Other reasons included 'drinking only a few drinks,' 'no accidents occurred despite drunk driving,' and 'it would be inconvenient the next day if they left the car behind.'
By age group, those in their 40s accounted for the largest share at 29.8% (452 people), followed by those in their 30s at 27.7% (420 people). Additionally, 69.1% (1,049 people) had over 10 years of driving experience, indicating that the proportion increased with more driving experience.
Among the participants who received drunk driving traffic safety education, 98.9% responded that 'this education made me aware of the dangers of drunk driving,' and 99.3% said they 'would practice drunk driving prevention methods.'
A representative from the Korea Road Traffic Authority stated, "The best prevention method for drunk driving is 'not bringing a car to drinking occasions,'" and added, "The Authority will continue to develop educational content so that trainees recognize the seriousness of drunk driving and form proper driving habits."
