The Gwangju Employers Federation announced on the 18th that it held the 1682nd Friday Breakfast Forum, inviting former Gwangju Mayor Lee Yongseop to speak on the theme of 'A Bigger and Stronger Gwangju'.
The event, held in the Convention Hall on the third floor of the Holiday Inn Gwangju Hotel, was attended by Lee Doyoung, Director of the Gwangju Regional Employment and Labor Office, a specialized agency supporting labor and employment projects, Moon In, Mayor of Buk-gu, and Kim Ikang, Mayor of Seo-gu, among others.
Former Mayor Lee Yongseop is currently an advisor at Yulchon LLC and the Chairman of the Policy Committee of the Korean Parliamentary Society, and previously served as a member of the 18th and 19th National Assembly. Under the Kim Daejung administration, he served as Commissioner of the Korea Customs Service; under the Roh Moo-hyun administration, he was Senior Secretary for Innovation Management at the Presidential Office, Minister of Construction and Transportation, Minister of Government Administration and Home Affairs, and Commissioner of the National Tax Service; and under the Moon Jaein administration, he served as Vice Chairman of the Presidential Committee on Jobs.
In this lecture, former Mayor Lee diagnosed Gwangju at a crossroads of 'leap or fall', presented a vision for Gwangju, offered three major proposals for a bigger and stronger Gwangju, and discussed the future of Gwangju and Jeonnam, emphasizing that it depends on these regions.
Former Mayor Lee stated, "Gwangju-ness and Gwangju-type jobs in artificial intelligence (AI) are very important for future generations," and added, "We must build Gwangju into a bigger and stronger city that is just and prosperous."
He continued, "AI, an advanced industry, was a project promoted during my tenure, and on June 3, it should be the top pledge for Gwangju in the 21st presidential election. In the new administration, large-scale investments in workforce development, technology, and research and development must be supported for Gwangju to gain momentum in the national AI convergence cluster project."
Yang Jinseok, Chairman of the Gwangju Employers Federation, said, "During his tenure, former Mayor Lee achieved much in Gwangju-type jobs, AI, and responses to the climate crisis," and added, "His insights on job creation, revitalizing the local economy, and strategies for coping with the trade war triggered by the tariff policies of the Trump administration's second term provided valuable opportunities for member companies and attendees."
