Announcement of Policy Demands for the 21st Presidential Election
The Korea Hanwoo Association has demanded the urgent enactment of the 'Hanwoo Act' to protect the Hanwoo industry ahead of the 21st presidential election.
The Hanwoo Association announced these policy demands on the 18th.
A representative of the Hanwoo Association stated, "Amid ongoing price instability of agricultural and livestock products and rising production costs, it is urgently necessary to prepare at least minimal measures to stabilize farmers' income. Especially as the recent demand from the United States to import beef over 30 months of age is becoming more visible, the enactment of the Hanwoo Act to protect the Hanwoo industry must be urgently pursued."
The Hanwoo Association adopted four major tasks as campaign pledges to presidential candidates: ▲enactment of the Hanwoo Act ▲strengthening national responsibility for controlling major livestock infectious diseases ▲support for consolidation of agricultural electricity rates ▲introduction of a feed stabilization fund system, and demanded their realization within the term.
Min Kyung-cheon, president of the Korea Hanwoo Association, said, "In the midst of climate change and instability in international affairs, it is necessary to break away from the policy framework that simply views agricultural and livestock products as a means of price stabilization, and to make a major shift in agricultural policy to secure food security and strengthen the competitiveness of domestic agriculture and livestock industries. I hope that effective pledges will be prepared to ensure stable income for farmers despite falling prices of agricultural and livestock products and rising production costs."
