Trump "Negotiations with China Underway... Conclusion Expected Within 3-4 Weeks"

"The Other Countries Want Tariff Negotiations More...
But the U.S. Makes the Decisions"

U.S. President Donald Trump said that he expects a trade deal with China to be reached "in about 3 to 4 weeks."

On the 17th (local time), during a signing ceremony for an executive order at the White House, President Trump stated, "We are in talks with China. They have contacted us several times."

When asked if the U.S. is still in dialogue with China after imposing reciprocal tariffs, President Trump replied, "Of course." When asked whether he has spoken directly with Chinese President Xi Jinping, he said, "It is inappropriate to talk about that. I will speak about it soon," avoiding a direct answer. He added, "That is not important. We will reach a deal with China," and said, "We are a big store that everyone wants to come to."

President Trump also commented on the sale negotiations of the Chinese video platform TikTok, saying, "There is a deal with TikTok, but it depends on China," and added, "We will postpone the negotiations until other situations are resolved."

When asked if he would take additional retaliatory measures if China raises tariffs further, he said, "I do not want tariffs to go higher because at some point people might stop buying."

Earlier, during a lunch and summit with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, when asked if he would call President Xi, Trump emphasized, "We will make a very good deal with China." Regarding concerns about President Xi building a kind of alliance by touring three Southeast Asian countries in response to U.S. tariff measures, he replied, "No. No one can compete with us."

Regarding reciprocal tariff negotiations with other countries, President Trump said, "Many countries want to negotiate with us. Honestly, they want to negotiate more than I do," and emphasized, "We will listen to them and treat them fairly. However, it is we who decide the deal."

When asked if there are countries prioritized in trade negotiations, he answered, "Everyone is my priority." On the timing of announcing results of tariff negotiations with some countries, he said, "At some point," and added, "We are not in a hurry."

In this regard, U.S. Treasury Secretary Scott Baesert, who attended the talks, said, "Yesterday's meeting with Japan was fantastic, and I understand that calls with the European Union (EU) have also been made. South Korea will come next week, and talks with India are progressing quickly."
