Seongbuk-gu, Seoul (Mayor Lee Seung-ro) announced on the 18th that it has completed the inaugural general meeting of founders and the board of directors meeting for the establishment of the Seongbuk Welfare Foundation, entering the final countdown phase for the foundation's establishment. Earlier, the district had obtained recognition for the purpose and necessity of establishing the welfare foundation and completed the final negotiations with the Seoul Metropolitan Government. It is now focusing on the preparations for the official launch.
At the founders' general meeting held on the 15th, Mayor Lee Seung-ro and the founders of the welfare foundation attended and approved agenda items including the election of foundation executives, business plans, and the articles of association. On the 17th, the foundation held a board meeting to complete essential legal procedures for the foundation’s establishment, such as electing the chairman and approving operational regulations.
From the 7th to the 8th term of the elected government, Seongbuk-gu has concentrated administrative efforts to respond to new social risks such as the increase in single-person households, social isolation, and solitary deaths, and to provide community-tailored welfare services through cooperation with the private sector.
Among these efforts, the Seongbuk Welfare Foundation is a project ambitiously promoted since last year to break the cycle of tragic welfare blind spots and to establish a dense local welfare network. Through the establishment of the welfare foundation, the district plans to realize four key initiatives: implementing a seamless welfare safety net, revitalizing a culture of local coexistence through donation and sharing, improving local welfare infrastructure, and promoting volunteer activities.
Yoon Jae-sung, elected as the foundation’s first chairman, stated, "The Seongbuk Welfare Foundation will do its best with the board members to effectively respond to the crisis situations of our residents and establish itself as an essential institution for local welfare."
Mayor Lee Seung-ro of Seongbuk-gu said, "We expect this to contribute to creating a welfare community where no Seongbuk resident is left behind and everyone can live a happy life."
