Over 100 Pine Trees Symbolizing Songpa Planted at the Southern End of Jamsil Bridge and Seongnam Boundary
Castle Stone Flowerbed Inspired by Seokchon-dong Ancient Tombs, Garden Plants, and Lighting Create Year-Round Scenery
Songpa-gu (District Mayor Seo Gang-seok) announced the completion of the 'Garden-style Pine Forest' project at both ends of Songpa-daero, specifically at the southern end of Jamsil Bridge and the boundary with Seongnam City, establishing it as a new iconic landscape spot representing Songpa.
This project is part of Seoul City's Gateway Green Space Landscape Improvement initiative, characterized by creating landscapes that embody the local identity and dignity at the start and end points of Songpa-gu's main road, Songpa-daero.
The district planted about 100 pine trees (Jangsong) near the traffic island and slopes close to Bokjeong Station and the green area at the southern end of Jamsil Bridge, realizing a pine hill befitting the name 'Songpa (松坡)'.
At the entrance from the Seongnam direction, reflecting Songpa's historical significance, a 'Castle Stone Flowerbed' inspired by the Seokchon-dong ancient tombs was installed, creating a three-dimensional landscape where history and landscaping harmonize beyond simple planting.
Additionally, excellent garden plants designated by Seoul City, such as golden aucuba, hydrangea, and Maelchaenamu, were planted to allow visitors to experience various colors and atmospheres throughout the four seasons.
Notably, during this landscaping project, the district transplanted a large pine tree originally planted in 1987 at Cheongdam Road Park to commemorate the completion of Olympic-daero during the Seoul Olympics, adding symbolic significance as the Olympic host site.
The district also installed landscape lighting illuminating the castle stones and Jangsong pines to improve nighttime scenery. The simple passage point for vehicles and pedestrians was transformed into a welcoming garden embodying Songpa's dignity both day and night.
At the southern end of Jamsil Bridge, Jangsong pines planted along both sides of Songpa-daero greet visitors. Existing weeds and brush were cleared, and the pine clusters harmonized with boulders, reborn as a beautiful landscape emphasizing natural beauty.
Seo Gang-seok, Mayor of Songpa-gu, stated, "The pines and gardens representing Songpa elegantly complete the first impression of Songpa at the city gateway. We will continue to manage them so that the green pines warmly welcome visitors and provide residents with daily rest and happiness."
