A tear gas grenade was discovered in a flower bed in front of Changwon Special City Hall in Gyeongnam.
According to Changwon Jungbu Police Station, a report was received at 1:38 p.m. on the 17th that a grenade had been found while cleaning the left flower bed in front of the city hall's main gate.
The police who responded to the scene immediately restricted access to the area and requested the Explosive Ordnance Disposal (EOD) team from a nearby military unit.
The Army 9th Ammunition Depot EOD team arrived at the scene and began investigating the object suspected to be a grenade. It was confirmed to be a tear gas grenade with no indication of being related to anti-aircraft activity.
The tear gas grenade was manufactured in 1986 and is believed to have been used by the military and police at the time. It was determined that the safety pin was still attached, so there was no risk of explosion.
The authorities plan to dispose of the recovered tear gas grenade in accordance with relevant procedures.
