Yeongdong Country Winery, Cheongju Sinsun, Chuncheon Jisiul, Ganghwa Yeonmi, and Cheorwon Uchang Selected for the 2025 "Visiting Breweries" Program
The Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs and the Korea Agro-Fisheries & Food Trade Corporation (aT) announced on the 18th that five new locations have been selected for the 2025 "Visiting Breweries" program.
The Visiting Breweries program has been promoted since 2013 to select outstanding local breweries and develop them into cultural spaces linked with regional tourism, offering traditional liquor tasting and making experiences, thereby revitalizing the local economy.
The exterior view of 'Country Winery' located in Yeongdong-gun, Chungbuk, selected for the 2025 'Visiting Breweries' program.
This year, a total of five breweries were selected: "Country Winery" in Yeongdong-gun, Chungbuk; "Sinsun" in Cheongju-si; "Jisiul" in Chuncheon-si, Gangwon; "Yeonmi" in Ganghwa-gun, Incheon; and "Uchang" in Cheorwon-gun, Gangwon.
For this selection, an evaluation committee composed of private experts comprehensively assessed 16 breweries recommended by local governments based on the brewery's history, connection with the local community and surrounding tourism elements, possession of liquor quality certifications, and awards from various traditional liquor competitions, evaluating both functionality and experiential aspects.
The selected breweries will receive customized consulting for two years in areas such as liquor and tourism, supporting improvements to experience and sales facilities, development of experience programs, establishment of promotional systems including websites, and commercialization of tourism linked with the local community.
Including the newly designated businesses this time, a total of 64 locations nationwide are currently operating under the Visiting Breweries program, strengthening general consumers' contact with traditional liquor through traditional liquor making experiences, tastings, and nearby tourism connections, contributing to the revitalization of the local economy.
Joo Won-cheol, Food Industry Policy Officer at the Ministry of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs, stated, "We hope many people visit the 'Visiting Breweries,' experiential spaces where local traditional liquor and culture and arts harmonize, to directly feel the quality of our liquor." He added, "The government will also strengthen consulting and promotion so that 'Visiting Breweries' can grow into representative cultural spaces of the regions."
