Seongdong-gu Launches 17 Community-Based ESG Projects

Seongdong-gu (Mayor Jung Won-oh) signed agreements with 17 organizations selected for the '2025 Seongdong-type ESG Practice Contest Project' on the 8th and will actively promote ESG projects.

Seongdong-gu has been leading various policies such as developing the E+ESG index that adds economy to ESG to spread awareness of ESG and create a sustainable city, promoting social contribution projects with companies, and publishing the first ESG report among local governments.

In particular, Seongdong-gu was the first local government nationwide to conduct the 'Seongdong-type ESG Practice Contest Project' in 2022, carrying out 57 ESG practice projects including underwater garbage collection in the Han River and Jungnangcheon Stream for aquatic environment conservation, autobiography production for the elderly, and hosting women's basketball tournaments.

This year, 46 capable organizations with experience in the ESG field applied for the contest, and after expert evaluations by field, 17 community-based practice projects were finally selected, with a total support amount of 167,788,000 KRW planned.

In the environmental field, resource circulation projects such as operating a fallen leaf exchange center using fallen leaves and a project to reduce hazardous waste through recycling discarded ceramics were selected. In the social field, programs for marginalized groups such as education for slow learners, psychological support for non-disabled siblings and disabled parents, and hosting women's soccer tournaments will be promoted.

In the governance field, projects such as the open city project 'Urban Pop' to revitalize apartment public spaces and corporate ESG social contributions are included, expected to contribute to community revitalization and networking among local companies.

The selected projects will be promoted according to their respective schedules, and progress on related projects will be introduced through the Seongdong-gu Office website and newsletters.

Jung Won-oh, Mayor of Seongdong-gu, said, "We will strive to spread awareness and practice of ESG in Seongdong-gu through the ESG Practice Contest Project," and added, "We ask for the active participation of residents."
