Dongdaemun-gu Partners with University of Seoul to Establish Carbon Neutrality Foundation

Dongdaemun-gu (District Mayor Lee Pil-hyung) announced on the 17th that it has signed a 'Business Agreement for the Operation of the Dongdaemun-gu Carbon Neutrality Support Center' with the University of Seoul (President Won Yong-geol).

The signing ceremony held at Dongdaemun-gu Office was attended by District Mayor Lee Pil-hyung, University of Seoul President Won Yong-geol, and Gu Ja-yong, Director of the Carbon Neutrality Support Center (Professor of Environmental Engineering at the University of Seoul).

Through this agreement, the two institutions plan to jointly promote carbon neutrality practice projects linked with the local community, collaborative research, and policy development.

The district selected the University of Seoul as the center's operating institution through a public contest. The operation period is from April 1, 2025, to December 31, 2026.

The center will serve as a hub for implementing customized local carbon neutrality policies, including ▲ greenhouse gas statistical calculation and analysis ▲ support for citizen participation practice programs.

District Mayor Lee Pil-hyung said, "Cooperation with the University of Seoul will be an important turning point in realizing Dongdaemun-gu's carbon neutrality vision," adding, "We will strive to realize 'Carbon Neutral City Dongdaemun-gu,' created together with citizens through policies that combine research and practice."
