Han Duck-soo, Acting President and Prime Minister, stated on the 17th regarding the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation (APEC) Summit to be held in Gyeongju, Gyeongbuk this October, "As the uncertainties in the global economy deepen, international interest in the APEC Summit will increase."


At the meeting of the APEC Summit Preparatory Committee held at the Government Seoul Office on the same day, Acting President Han said, "There is not much time left until the summit," and added, "Considering the physical time required for building the necessary infrastructure, it is now time to finalize concrete plans and execute them swiftly."


He continued, "To widely promote our national brand value through the achievements of the summit and the APEC event, it is necessary to start phased and strategic publicity from now on," and urged, "I hope the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, together with related ministries, local governments, and the private sector as one team, will thoroughly check the preparations in each field two or three times to ensure there is not the slightest error."


Acting President Han emphasized, "During the APEC Summit week, not only leaders from the Asia-Pacific region but also major global business leaders are expected to participate in large numbers," and added, "The CEO Summit and the APEC Business Advisory Council (ABAC) meetings, where global business leaders gather, are important events that expand business networks and can lead to investment in Korea."

Choi Tae-won, Chairman of the Korea Chamber of Commerce and Industry, said, "There are 194 days left until the APEC CEO Summit," and explained, "This year's CEO Summit is being prepared as the largest-ever event with APEC member country leaders and global CEOs participating together."


Chairman Choi stated, "Especially, the broad participation of global CEOs is the key to the success of the event," and added, "It is important not only to prepare the event substantively but also to plan a diverse and attractive stage program that can give strong courage to those attending."


He continued, "Since this is a stage of cooperation dynamically created by the government and the private sector together, only by combining the strengths of both can true results be achieved," and added, "The more difficult the situation, the more important it is to complement each other and seek new paths through joint efforts."


At the meeting, government officials including Yoo In-chon, Minister of Culture, Sports and Tourism; Ahn Deok-geun, Minister of Trade, Industry and Energy; Cho Kyu-hong, Minister of Health and Welfare; Song Mi-ryeong, Minister of Agriculture, Food and Rural Affairs; Jang Ho-jin, Special Advisor for Foreign Affairs and Security to the Presidential Office; and Bang Ki-seon, Director of the Office for Government Policy Coordination attended. From the private sector, Cho Jin-hyung, Vice Chairman of the Korea Federation of SMEs, and Kim Bong-man, Vice Chairman of the Federation of Korean Industries, were present.
