Two-Year Term
Activities in Three Subcommittees: Safety, Care, and Employment
On the 17th, Namwon City in Jeollabuk-do announced that it held the appointment ceremony and capacity building training for the 5th Women's Friendly City Citizen Participation Group at the Namwon City Childcare Support Center.
The first part of the event included the appointment of 30 members to the Namwon City Women's Friendly City Citizen Participation Group, the election of the group leader and subcommittee heads, and a discussion on the group's activity plans.
For the second part, Cha Ji-hyun, a gender equality expert instructor from the Korea Institute for Gender Equality Promotion and Education, was invited to conduct capacity building training under the theme "Understanding Women's Friendly Cities and the Role of the Citizen Participation Group" to improve gender-friendly awareness among the group members.
During their two-year term, the Citizen Participation Group will operate in three subcommittees: Safety, Care, and Employment. The Safety subcommittee will monitor to create a safer local environment and address citizens' inconveniences, while the Care and Employment subcommittees will work on creating a childcare environment to support work-life balance and propose policies to promote women's employment, entrepreneurship, and job stability.
Mayor Choi Kyung-sik stated, "Since the city was designated as a Women's Friendly City last December, the interest and participation of the Citizen Participation Group are absolutely essential," and added, "I ask all members of the Citizen Participation Group to propose new initiatives and policy directions and to monitor any unreasonable matters so that Namwon can become a better place for all citizens to live."
