One Consortium and Two Local Governments Selected,
Securing Approximately 100 Million KRW in National Funding
Busan City has secured national funding from the Ministry of Education's Regional Lifelong Education Activation Support Project and will implement a variety of educational programs.
Busan City (Mayor Park Hyungjun) announced on the 17th that a consortium and two basic local governments have been selected for the Ministry of Education's 2025 Regional Lifelong Education Activation Support Project, securing approximately 100 million KRW in national funding to implement various education programs in connection with the local community.
The Regional Lifelong Education Activation Support Project is designed to establish a lifelong learning system so that residents can receive lifelong education anytime and anywhere. This time, the city was selected in the field of specialized support for existing lifelong learning cities.
For the Lifelong Learning Intensive Promotion District type, the city and 11 districts and counties (Jung-gu, Seo-gu, Dong-gu, Yeongdo-gu, Dongnae-gu, Buk-gu, Saha-gu, Geumjeong-gu, Suyeong-gu, Sasang-gu, and Gijang-gun), the Busan Women's Family and Lifelong Education Promotion Institute were selected as a consortium, securing 50 million KRW in national funding.
For the Regional Specialized Program (Lifelong Learning City) type, two districts (Nam-gu: 27 million KRW, Yeonje-gu: 30 million KRW) were selected, securing a total of 57 million KRW in national funding.
The Lifelong Learning Intensive Promotion District project, being implemented for the first time this year, aims to reduce gaps in lifelong education infrastructure between regions. It is a project type that establishes a consortium system linking the Lifelong Education Promotion Institute (metropolitan level), Lifelong Learning Cities (basic level), local universities, and companies (lifelong education-related organizations). Busan City will jointly promote various projects with the Women's Family and Lifelong Education Promotion Institute, 11 districts and counties, local universities, and companies.
Under the "LA-LA LAnd Project: Dreaming of Tomorrow (work, one, day) for Busan Citizens," the city plans to implement various detailed projects, including the operation of industry-academia-linked educational courses under "Learn (LA) My Work (work)," the activation of an integrated network under "Connect (LA) My One (one)," and support for activities to foster the growth of "Act (LA) Busan Citizens' Tomorrow (day)."
In addition, Nam-gu and Yeonje-gu, which were selected for the regional specialized program type, will conduct a variety of lifelong education programs tailored to their regions.
Nam-gu will promote five projects under the "BaeumOnPlus (On+): Lifelong Learning with Artificial Intelligence (AI)" initiative, including the training of AI learning coaches, to create a learning environment where anyone can utilize and apply generative AI in daily life. The district will operate a "Digital Literacy Academy" at lifelong learning centers to bridge the digital divide among residents and establish a digital lifelong learning system by supporting digital literacy volunteer activities to assist with generative AI and online classes.
Yeonje-gu will promote a total of 24 projects in nine fields under the "Everyday IT, Digital Transformation (DX), Learning City Yeonje" initiative to build a digital lifelong learning ecosystem with 1,000 participants. Starting in June, the district plans to train and deploy AI and digital mentors and recruit participants for a digital challenge open to all generations.
Kim Guiok, Director of Youth-Industry-Academia at Busan City, said, "We will actively promote the establishment of lifelong learning clusters among local universities, companies, and communities, as well as the operation of regionally specialized programs, to expand practical lifelong learning opportunities for Busan citizens and ensure that citizens' voluntary participation and achievements lead to employment and entrepreneurship, resulting in economic ripple effects."
