10th Anniversary of Busan Institute of Science, Technology and Education Promotion
Strengthening Policy Research and Planning Capabilities
Busan Institute of Science, Technology and Education Promotion (BISTEP, President Kim Youngbu), the policy support agency for science and technology in Busan, announced on the 17th that it will strengthen its policy planning and research functions to drive regional science and technology innovation as it marks its 10th anniversary.
Over the past decade, BISTEP has taken the lead in building a sustainable science and technology innovation ecosystem by discovering and attracting Busan-style R&D projects through science and technology-based policy planning and research, analyzing implementation outcomes, and reflecting them in the investment direction for the following year.
This year, marking its 10th anniversary, BISTEP plans to significantly expand the publication of periodicals that provide insights into regional policy and industrial trends, focusing on delivering systematic information to strengthen Busan's science and technology capabilities and lay the foundation for fostering advanced industries.
This year, BISTEP is comprehensively reorganizing its policy information provision functions based on its achievements so far. In particular, it is greatly expanding the publication of regular periodicals that offer perspectives on regional industry and technology trends, and is building a systematic information infrastructure to help Busan leap forward as a global science and technology city.
Since this year, the BISTEP Policy Research Headquarters has been providing timely insights and updates on domestic and international science and technology policy trends to Busan City, the city council, and related organizations through its online publication, 'Monthly S&T Report.' The recently published second issue received significant attention for its main theme, 'Securing Talent that Determines National Competitiveness in the AI Era.'
In addition, preparations are underway to relaunch the quarterly magazine 'Technology Innovation and Future Busan,' which previously received great acclaim in the domestic science and technology community. The editorial board was recently established, and the first issue for 2025 is scheduled for publication in July.
The Convergence Planning TF Team has been publishing the 'Bi-Weekly Brief' every other week since April to introduce timely global science and technology trends. The Evaluation and Analysis Headquarters also plans to launch a new 'Information Analysis Report,' which will analyze current issues and trends in science, technology, and industry sectors closely related to the region based on local data.
The first report, focusing on 'Utilizing Artificial Intelligence for Manufacturing Innovation,' will provide useful analytical information for local researchers to reference in project planning.
Lee Jongryul, Director of the Policy Research Headquarters, stated, "Last year, BISTEP published 10 policy research reports, including 'Busan's 2040 Science and Technology Agenda,' establishing a strategic foundation for the development of regional science and technology. This year, in line with municipal policies focusing on advanced industries such as AI and talent development, BISTEP will further strengthen its role as the brain of region-led innovative growth."
The future of the region begins with science and technology. Building on the achievements of the past 10 years, BISTEP is determined to become the compass of regional innovation for the next decade.
