Busan Office of Education Holds Competition to Discover Near-Miss Accidents

Spreading a Culture of Safety and Health Together with Workers
Preventing Industrial Accidents

To commemorate 'Industrial Accident Workers' Day (April 28)', which was designated as a national commemorative day this year, the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education is taking steps to create a safe and healthy workplace.

The Busan Metropolitan Office of Education (Superintendent Kim Seokjun) announced on the 17th that it will hold the 'First Half Near-Miss Discovery Contest' for employees of institutions under its jurisdiction until the 30th of next month.

A 'near-miss' refers to a situation where an accident did not occur but there was a risk of it happening due to facility defects, carelessness, and other factors.

The purpose of this contest is to actively discover and promote 'near-miss' cases experienced in the field, spread a safety and health culture involving all workers, and prevent industrial accidents through these efforts.

Those wishing to participate can submit their experiences through the 'School Safety Plus' near-miss reporting box of the Office of Education and the KakaoTalk 'Safety Bogam' channel. Submitted cases will be posted on 'School Safety Plus' and will also be included in the 'Industrial Accident Casebook' to be published in December this year to maximize promotional effects.

In addition, the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education plans to encourage participation by awarding coffee coupons worth 15,000 won to 20 participants selected by lottery.

Kim Seokjun, Superintendent of the Busan Metropolitan Office of Education, said, "Sharing 'near-miss' cases experienced directly by workers will be of great help in proactively responding to potential accident risks in the field," and added, "I ask for your interest and participation in this contest to create a safe and healthy workplace."

The Ministry of Employment and Labor designated April 28, the 'World Day for Safety and Health at Work,' as 'Industrial Accident Workers' Day' to protect the rights of workers who have suffered from accidents in industrial sites and to remember their sacrifices.
