Lee Cheolwoo, Governor of North Gyeongsang Province and a presidential primary candidate for the People Power Party, announced on the 17th, "If I become president, I will invite North Korean leader Kim Jong Un to the APEC summit to be held in Gyeongju this October."
Through Facebook on this day, Governor Lee stated, "If I become president, I will promote a special APEC project in 2025. At the upcoming APEC summit, which will be held in Gyeongju on October 31 with 21 Asia-Pacific countries participating, I will invite the leaders of the four major powers?Trump, Xi Jinping, Putin, and Ishiba?along with North Korea's Kim Jong Un."
Governor Lee said, "Although the Hanoi Big Deal failed, this APEC summit, held on our soil, is an opportunity of a different level. By establishing a bold strategy, I will lay the foundation for peace on the Korean Peninsula and open new opportunities." He added, "As a concrete project, I will propose the joint development of the DMZ by South Korea, North Korea, and the United States."
Governor Lee expressed his ambition, saying, "In the Demilitarized Zone, once a symbol of military confrontation and division, South and North Korea and the United States will build hotels and resorts together, transforming it into a place for inter-Korean exchange and a world-renowned tourist destination. If Lee Cheolwoo becomes president, a new opportunity will open on the Korean Peninsula."
