Cheongyang County in South Chungcheong Province has transformed its public health center into a general hospital-level medical facility to improve the quality of medical services, a long-standing wish of local residents.

According to Cheongyang County on the 17th, the public health center had no specialists as recently as 2018, but now has secured seven specialists in departments such as obstetrics and gynecology, internal medicine, and orthopedics, significantly enhancing the level of medical services.

On the 14th, four additional public health doctors, including an ophthalmology specialist, were assigned to fill gaps in medical care and address the needs of local residents.

In particular, the "Visiting Medical Center," the only program of its kind operated by a local government in Korea, provides mobile medical services to villages with low medical accessibility. Last year, it operated 51 times and treated around 2,500 people, receiving a very positive response.

Additionally, the ICT-based remote collaborative care system, an integrated system that connects chronic disease management, health education, and care services, is simultaneously providing region-specific medical services and strengthening the public health safety net.

The health screening center, opened in 2020, also offers various free screening services, including the national five major cancer screenings and lung CT scans, making a significant contribution to eliminating blind spots in health checkups.

County Governor Kim Dongon stated, "We plan to further secure more specialists and expand the emergency room and inpatient wards to develop the public health center into a comprehensive medical facility," adding, "We will create a medical environment where residents no longer need to travel to cities for treatment."
