LG Energy Solution Daejeon and Gwacheon R&D Key Personnel Move to Seocho Campus... "Maximizing Synergy"

Strengthening Collaboration Between Departments With Similar Functions
Accelerating Battery Technology Development

LG Energy Solution is relocating its core research and development (R&D) personnel, previously dispersed across Daejeon and Gwacheon, to the Seocho R&D Campus in Seoul. The strategy aims to enhance collaboration efficiency and accelerate battery technology development by integrating related organizations within the Seocho campus, where research infrastructure is concentrated.

According to industry sources on the 17th, LG Energy Solution plans to move about 1,000 key research personnel, including those from the Battery Management System (BMS) and software teams based at the Daejeon Technology Research Institute and the Gwacheon R&D Campus in Gyeonggi Province, to the Seocho R&D Campus located in Seocho-gu, Seoul, by June. This move is interpreted as an effort to create a more favorable environment for attracting new talent and to strengthen collaboration between departments performing similar functions.

The company’s decision to relocate to the Seocho R&D Campus was also influenced by research and development infrastructure considerations. A representative from LG Energy Solution stated, "It is common to move R&D personnel to hubs where research equipment and new facilities are concentrated," adding, "With research infrastructure concentrated at the Seocho campus, it will be possible to create a more efficient development environment."

This move became feasible following the completion of the expansion of four research buildings at LG Electronics’ Magok LG Science Park in Seoul. Approximately 1,000 research personnel who had been stationed at LG Electronics’ Seocho R&D Campus relocated to Magok, thereby freeing up space for LG Energy Solution personnel.

Currently, the Seocho R&D Campus houses parts of LG Electronics’ Chief Technology Officer (CTO) division, the Software Platform Research Institute, the System Semiconductor (SoC) Center, and the Artificial Intelligence Research Institute. As the integration of advanced technologies becomes increasingly important in developing sophisticated systems such as individual battery cell state control, usage range prediction, and charging algorithm provision, the consolidation at the Seocho R&D Campus is expected to accelerate inter-organizational collaboration, including rapid task force (TF) deployment in urgent situations.

The personnel subject to relocation generally respond positively to moving from regional areas to the Seoul metropolitan area. For employees who find it difficult to move from Daejeon to Seoul, the company is flexibly supporting team transfers. A company representative said, "The Seocho campus has a favorable location for securing top talent," and added, "This relocation will enhance research efficiency and further boost our competitiveness in battery technology."
