Chosun University Hospital announced on the 17th that Professor Joo Changil of the Department of Neurosurgery was recently invited as a keynote speaker at the 10th ASEAN Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery and Techniques (ASEAN MISST) Conference 2025 held in Bangkok, Thailand.
The 'ASEAN MISST' conference is the largest spine conference in Southeast Asia, where every year medical professionals specializing in spinal treatment from Korea, Taiwan, India, Australia, Japan, and other Pacific regions gather to research and share the latest medical information and surgical techniques.
Korea is currently leading the world in endoscopic spine surgery, serving as a global leader in the field. Many spine surgeons from around the world visit Korea to learn these surgical techniques. Starting in June, an Indian doctor will visit Chosun University Hospital for an extended period to learn endoscopic spine surgery under Professor Joo's guidance.
In his lecture, Professor Joo presented his research findings and experiences on the topic of 'Key Anatomical Factors to Consider for Successful Endoscopic Foraminotomy at the L5-S1 (between the fifth lumbar vertebra and sacrum) Level.'
At this conference, Professor Joo, who is currently the president of the Korean Society of Endoscopic Spine Surgery (KOSESS), signed an MOU with the Thai Minimally Invasive Spine Surgery Society (ThaiMISST) to establish international cooperation in the field of endoscopic spine surgery. Based on this agreement, both countries will continue to host invited lectures at each other's academic conferences every year.
KOSESS has been actively engaging in exchange activities since signing an MOU with the Malaysian Society of Endoscopic Spine Surgery (MSESS) in 2023, and since 2021, Korea, Japan, and Taiwan have been hosting the Korea-Japan-Taiwan Endoscopic Spinal Surgery (KJT-ESS) camp on a rotating basis.
Meanwhile, Professor Joo is currently serving as the Director of the Spine Center and Head of the Minimally Invasive Spine Clinic at Chosun University Hospital, and is also an advisory doctor for RIWOSpine.
