'Tumbler Donation Performance'
'Relay of Environmental Practice Pledges' and More
Seocho-gu, Seoul (Mayor Jeon Seong-su) will hold the 'Earth Protected by Seocho in 2025' event on the 22nd to mark Earth Day, addressing the climate crisis and promoting carbon neutrality practices in daily life through various themes.
The event will take place in the large auditorium on the 2nd floor of the district office and the front yard of the office building. It will be held together with environmental leaders in the community who are highly interested in environmental issues and strive to create change, such as the 'Green Seocho Environmental Practice Group' and 'Seocho Carbon Zero Guardians.'
The 'Earth Protected by Seocho in 2025' event will begin with a 'Tumbler Donation Performance' conducted by the 'Seocho Carbon Zero Guardians' paired with invited guests. They will go on stage in pairs and place their tumblers into donation boxes. The donated tumblers will be thoroughly cleaned and used during coffee truck events linked to activities such as the 'Sharing Market Visiting Apartments.'
Following this, a commissioning ceremony will be held for 22 new 'Seocho Carbon Zero Guardians.' These future environmental leaders consist of children from local daycare centers, kindergartens, and elementary to high school students, and they plan to promote the culture of eco-friendly green living. They will participate in biannual ecological experience education hosted by the district, including making resource recycling collection boxes and environmental theater performances, as well as various eco-friendly events and campaigns.
Next, the 'Green Seocho Environmental Practice Group' from each neighborhood will take the stage one by one to shout environmental practice pledges in a 'Relay of Environmental Practice Pledges.'
In the front yard of the district office, transparent PET bottles collected by residents over a month, led by the Green Seocho Environmental Practice Group, will be exhibited. This is intended to raise awareness of environmental pollution caused by plastic in commemoration of Earth Day and to emphasize the importance of separate collection for PET bottle upcycling.
Along with this, various experience booths for practicing carbon neutrality in daily life will be set up, including upcycling play experiences like bottle cap tossing, soap bubbles, and cotton candy bicycle generator booths. A tumbler coffee truck will also operate, providing free drinks to those who bring their personal cups (tumblers).
Additionally, an upcycling art exhibition titled 'Small but Certain Actions Exhibition' will be held in the district office lobby. Sponsored by the local SPC Group, upcycled products made from coffee bean packaging sacks will be displayed, along with works created by members of the Green Seocho Environmental Practice Group such as coffee grounds keyrings, aprons made from discarded banners, soap made from leftover rice, and coffee sack bags.
Mayor Jeon Seong-su said, "Through this event, we aim to take the lead in practicing carbon neutrality as a preemptive response to the climate crisis together with various environmental leaders in the community," adding, "We will continue to strive to create a 'Sustainable Carbon Neutral Clean City Seocho.'"
