On the 17th at 3 p.m., the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will hold the seventh session of 'Art Policy Stories at 3 p.m.' in the lecture room of the Traditional Performance Creation Maru in Jongno-gu, Seoul, to gather on-site opinions on the promotion of Gugak.
Together with traditional artists, officials from national art organizations, and experts, they will discuss the establishment direction of the '1st Basic Plan for Gugak Promotion (2025?2029)'. The 'Art Policy Stories at 3 p.m.' is a weekly Thursday forum hosted by the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism to introduce art policies by topic and collect field opinions from the arts community.
At this forum, the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism will first explain the background and overall establishment direction of the '1st Basic Plan for Gugak Promotion,' and the National Gugak Center, the Foundation for the Advancement of Traditional Performing Arts, and Gugak Broadcasting will present their institution-specific mid- to long-term plans for Gugak promotion. Then, various opinions will be exchanged on key policy areas such as training professional personnel in the Gugak field, fostering art organizations, research and development of instruments, scores, and performance venues, revitalizing the Gugak cultural industry, and expanding Gugak overseas.
Discussants include Kim Sang-yeon, professor of Gugak at Chonnam National University; Seo In-hwa, vice-chair of the Seoul Metropolitan Intangible Heritage Committee; Sung Ki-suk, member of the Korea Arts Council; Yoo Eun-seon, artistic director of the National Changgeuk Company; Lee Jeong-pil, former CEO of Busan Cultural Center; Lim Woong-soo, chairman of the Korea Nongak Association; and Jung Da-saem, professor of Art & Technology at Sogang University, who will present opinions to enhance the effectiveness of Gugak promotion policies.
Lee Jeong-woo, Director of the Cultural Arts Policy Office at the Ministry of Culture, Sports and Tourism, stated, "Gugak is Korea’s unique music with high historical and cultural value and has broad extensibility that can converge with various content fields. Reflecting the opinions from the public hearing, we will develop Gugak as a representative cultural and artistic source that preserves the pride of our culture, a driving force that creates new markets and industries, and a daily vitality enjoyed by all."
