Gwangjin-gu Senior Center Seniors' Dining Out Day Increased from Twice to Four Times a Month

'Dining Out Day' for Seniors at 97 Senior Centers Expanded from Twice to Four Times a Month
Reducing Meal Preparation and Kitchen Cleanup Burden with Flexible Use of Local Restaurants

Gwangjin-gu Senior Center Seniors' Dining Out Day Increased from Twice to Four Times a Month

Gwangjin-gu (District Mayor Kim Kyung-ho) is expanding the operation of 'Dining Out Day,' which provides lunch at nearby restaurants to senior citizens at senior centers.

Following the expansion of lunch provision at senior centers to five days a week last September, the district signed a tripartite business agreement with the Gwangjin-gu branch of the Korea Senior Citizens Association and the Gwangjin-gu branch of the Korea Foodservice Industry Association to launch the 'Senior Center Dining Out Day' project.

'Dining Out Day' is a project designed to offer senior citizens various dining opportunities to promote their health and improve their quality of life. It also aims to reduce the burden on seniors related to increased food preparation and kitchen cleanup due to the expanded lunch service.

Starting this year, the district has increased the number of dining support occasions per senior center from twice a month to four times a month across 97 locations. Seniors can freely choose and dine at local restaurants.

As the number of seniors using senior centers through 'Dining Out Day' has increased, the centers have become more active. Seniors regularly eat together and interact, strengthening social relationships and continuing vibrant lives, which also helps prevent social isolation.

Additionally, over 1,600 seniors at 97 senior centers use various nearby restaurants once a week, revitalizing the local commercial district.

Kim Kyung-ho, Mayor of Gwangjin-gu, said, "We have expanded the operation frequency of Senior Center Dining Out Day to provide more seniors with rich dining experiences. We will continue to spare no effort in supporting the healthy and happy lives of our senior citizens."
