The People Power Party criticized the Constitutional Court's decision on the 16th to suspend the effect of the nomination of Han Duck-soo, Acting President and Prime Minister, as a candidate for Constitutional Court Justice, calling it a "very regrettable decision."
Shin Dong-wook, the chief spokesperson for the People Power Party, said in a statement that "this leaves a dangerous precedent that even the legitimate exercise of authority by the Acting President can be restricted based on political interpretation."
Spokesperson Shin stated, "The Acting President is the constitutional subject who performs duties delegated by the President, and the nomination of justices is an exclusive presidential authority granted by the Constitution," adding, "especially since the composition of constitutional institutions is a critical matter directly linked to national stability."
He said, "Nevertheless, restricting the exercise of authority could cause serious confusion and a vacuum in the constitutional order during future national emergencies."
Regarding the designation of Justice Ma Eun-hyuk as the presiding judge in this case, Spokesperson Shin claimed, "Justice Ma has repeatedly made rulings and statements biased toward a particular inclination, causing controversy over left-leaning bias," and added, "Isn't this why many citizens are expressing concerns that Justice Ma's ruling today was judicial retaliation disguised as judgment?"
He further stated, "Attempts to politically obstruct the legitimate exercise of constitutional authority can never be justified," and added, "The people will no longer tolerate a situation where politics reigns above the Constitution."
