At the report meeting, about 25 officials from the Gyeonggi Province-Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation consultative body, including Kim Ki-beom, Director of the Gyeonggi Province Railway, Port, and Logistics Bureau, attended to share the final results of the research project conducted for about 10 months starting from June 2024 and to discuss future directions.
Park Kyung-chul, Head of the Mobility Research Office at the Gyeonggi Research Institute, the executing agency of the project, presented the report focusing on ▲ the necessity and feasibility of participating in railway projects ▲ selection of lines for operation business ▲ establishment of participation strategies and roadmaps.
Through this project, Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation secured the necessity and feasibility of participating in Gyeonggi Province railway projects and concretized the participation plans for operation business by line. In addition, it reviewed the possibilities of various railway sector projects such as participation in railway-related projects of the province, cities, and counties, and operation of tram driving training institutions, deriving strategies to establish a stable business structure.
Min Kyung-sun, President of Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation, said, "This project laid a practical foundation for participating in Gyeonggi Province railway projects and became an opportunity to contribute to improving railway transportation welfare for the residents. Moving forward, starting with the Dobongsan-Ogjeong Line, Dongtan Urban Railway (Tram), and Ogjeong-Pocheon Line, we will continue to participate in the operation business of the Goyang-Eunpyeong Line and transform into a specialized public corporation for Gyeonggi Province railways."
Following this, Kim Ki-beom, Director of the Gyeonggi Province Railway, Port, and Logistics Bureau, said, "We hope that Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation can actively enter the operation of Gyeonggi Province railways, and Gyeonggi Province will actively support this."
Meanwhile, Gyeonggi Transportation Corporation has been discussing participation plans in railway projects through continuous consultations with the Metropolitan Area Express Transit Commission and Gyeonggi Province, formed the 'Railway Operation Promotion TF' to secure professional personnel, and is currently conducting recruitment. In addition, in March, it participated in the inauguration ceremony of the 'Urban Railway Operation Institutions Consultative Body' hosted by the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport's Metropolitan Area Express Transit Commission (Daegwangwi) to promote mutual growth among seven urban railway operation institutions nationwide.
