Only Animals Showing Symptoms or Testing Positive Will Be Culled
Pigs Not Culled to Receive At Least Three Additional Vaccinations
Jeollanam-do announced on the 16th that, according to the emergency action guidelines (SOP), in the case of additional foot-and-mouth disease outbreaks at pig farms, only the animals showing clinical symptoms or testing positive with a rapid diagnostic kit will be partially culled.
For farms where partial culling has been carried out, clinical inspections will be conducted twice a week until movement restrictions are lifted to check for symptoms, and if additional positive animals are identified, they will be culled promptly.
On the 10th, at two farms in Muan where foot-and-mouth disease occurred, the disease was first detected in pigs and all animals were culled.
For farms where partial culling was conducted, movement restrictions will remain in place until three weeks have passed since the last burial (the date of virus detection) and there are no abnormalities in livestock virus tests, clinical inspections, antibody tests, and environmental virus tests.
Pigs that are not culled will be vaccinated immediately and receive two additional vaccinations at two-week intervals.
Park Hyunsik, Director of Agriculture, Livestock and Food of Jeollanam-do, urged, "Until quarantine measures are lifted, farm owners and workers should refrain from going out, and strictly follow basic quarantine rules such as removing outerwear and wearing protective suits and changing boots when entering livestock facilities."
