According to Lee's support committee on the 16th, the fundraising that started at 10 a.m. the previous day reached the legal limit within the same day. About 63,000 people participated in the donations, and 99% of them were small contributions under 100,000 won.
The committee explained that despite the bank's deposit limit settings, an excess of about 250 million won was deposited due to the flood of contributions, and the excess amount will be refunded.
The committee stated, "Raising the limit in one day through numerous small donations is a miracle born from the passionate hearts of the people wishing for the end of internal strife and a new Republic of Korea."
Regarding the fundraising closure, Lee said on his Facebook, "'Comrade' means people who share the same purpose or intention, and I really like this word," adding, "I bow my head in gratitude to the 63,000 comrades who gathered their will."
He continued, "As always, the proportion of small donations is overwhelming," and said, "The earnestness of each and every person longing for a new country feels especially heavy."
