Pohang City Wins Korea Representative Brand Award in Battery Industry City Category for Four Consecutive Years

Strengthening Industrial Base Through Expansion of Industrial Complex Infrastructure and Tax Benefits Following Specialized Complex Designation

Pohang City received the grand prize in the "Battery Industry City" category at the "2025 Korea Representative Brand Awards" ceremony held at the Shilla Hotel in Seoul on the 16th.

The Korea Representative Brand Awards is an annual event that marks its 20th anniversary this year, where consumers directly evaluate and select brands specialized in regions, industries, and culture based on brand awareness and preference. The awards have been held annually since 2006.

This year's ceremony was co-hosted by Donga.com, iMBC, and Hankyung.com, with eight local governments nationwide nominated in the Battery Industry City category.

Pohang City received high scores in all evaluation criteria, including brand value and marketing activities, winning the grand prize. Notably, the city has achieved this meaningful feat for four consecutive years since its first win in 2022.

Pohang City has rapidly established itself as a battery industry hub since Ecopro's regional investment in 2017, followed by the designation of the Battery Recycling Regulation-Free Zone in 2019, and the subsequent entry of related companies into the Yeongilman and Blue Valley industrial complexes.

Additionally, with the designation of the National Advanced Strategic Industry Specialized Complex for secondary batteries in 2023 and the Opportunity Development Zone for secondary batteries last year, the city has been actively supporting companies through expanded industrial complex infrastructure and various tax benefits.

These policy foundations have greatly contributed not only to the revitalization of industrial complexes but also to the influx of related companies and the expansion of the industrial ecosystem.

Pohang City is also accelerating talent development. Through initiatives such as the Battery Academy, the Battery Specialized Graduate School, Glocal University, and the designation of an Education Special Zone, the city is systematically securing a talent pool to lead the secondary battery industry, from field personnel to highly skilled professionals.

Furthermore, in the face of changing global battery industry environments and increasing policy uncertainties, Pohang City is actively working with the government and the National Assembly to enact the "Special Act on Supporting the Secondary Battery Industry," striving to create a stable growth environment for companies.

With this award as momentum, the city plans to further accelerate efforts to enhance the overall competitiveness of the battery industry ecosystem, including attracting companies, expanding specialized complexes, and fostering talent.
