Gwangju Transportation Corporation (President Cho Ikmun) announced on the 16th that it will completely replace the seats in subway train cars by May to ensure passenger safety and create a more comfortable train environment.

This project will be carried out on all trains of Gwangju Metro Line 1. The old seats will be newly refurbished with flame-retardant materials that meet domestic safety standards, thereby enhancing fire safety and hygiene inside the train cars.

In addition, to help passengers easily identify their seats, each seat will be color-coded (▲Green for general seats ▲Navy for seats for the transportation disadvantaged ▲Pink for seats reserved for pregnant women). The frames of the old seats will also be repainted, which is expected to improve both passenger convenience and the overall appearance of the train cars.

Alongside these efforts, the corporation is using ATP (Adenosine Triphosphate) testers to regularly monitor contamination levels in all trains, and is thoroughly managing hygiene through routine sterilization, disinfection, and high-temperature steam cleaning.

President Cho Ikmun stated, "We will carry out the replacement work sequentially within the scheduled period to minimize inconvenience to citizens," adding, "We will continue to do our best to provide safe and convenient transportation services in the future."
