Kang Mo (31), known as the so-called 'Team Leader Lee,' who was sentenced to prison in the first trial for ordering teenagers to graffiti the walls of Gyeongbokgung Palace, was sentenced to one year in prison for concealing criminal proceeds.
According to the legal community on the 16th, Judge Koo Chang-gyu of the Seoul Central District Court Criminal Division 12 handed Kang a one-year prison sentence on the 9th for violating the Act on the Regulation of Concealment of Criminal Proceeds. The court stated, "The defendants' purpose was to conceal Kang's criminal proceeds, and the amount concealed was a large sum reaching 250 million won, making the culpability very serious."
Kang was indicted on charges of laundering and concealing a total of 255.2 million won in criminal proceeds received as payment for posting advertisements for illegal gambling sites on an illegal video sharing site he operated from December 2023 to May 2024. The court recognized guilt for 243.2 million won of this amount.
It was investigated that Kang instructed Park and others, whom he met through a Telegram open chat room, to receive illegal gambling site advertising fees via nominee accounts, then withdraw the money in cash or purchase virtual assets, and subsequently receive the funds again.
Three accomplices, including Park Mo, who participated in money laundering by receiving commissions from Kang, were sentenced to suspended prison terms.
Meanwhile, Kang was sentenced to seven years in prison in the first trial last December for ordering high school student Lim Mo and others, whom he met on Telegram in December 2022, to graffiti Gyeongbokgung Palace.
