Seongnam City Opens a Forum for Dialogue with the AI Industry
Aims to Foster AI Growth through Public-Private Cooperation and Field Communication
Seongnam City, Gyeonggi Province (Mayor Shin Sang-jin) announced on the 16th that it has embarked on establishing a public-private win-win cooperation system to foster the AI industry and promote corporate growth through communication with AI companies in the region.

On the 15th, Mayor Shin Sang-jin held a meeting with representatives of local companies active in various fields such as AI-based Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS), autonomous driving, Internet of Things (IoT), image processing, and robotics at the City Hall’s first conference room.
This event was organized to encourage companies in the AI sector and to reflect their vivid voices from the field in city administration. The attending company representatives shared difficulties encountered during technology development and commercialization, research and development (R&D), and global market entry processes, and broadly discussed ways to revitalize the AI industry through cooperation with Seongnam City.
In particular, various opinions were exchanged regarding the development direction of 'On-Device AI' technology, which processes data using embedded processors within devices instead of cloud-based processing, and ways to incorporate this into city administration.
Additionally, proposals were made for various support measures such as establishing living labs or testbeds, hosting demonstrations and competitions to verify and promote corporate technologies.
Mayor Shin Sang-jin stated, "The AI industry is a key driver that will determine the future national competitiveness," adding, "Seongnam City will strengthen public-private cooperation to leap beyond a special city for the 4th industrial revolution to become a global AI innovation city, creating the optimal environment for companies leading AI technological innovation to grow."
He further emphasized, "We will also strengthen AI talent development and startup support to make Seongnam the center of the AI industry."
Meanwhile, Seongnam City declared this year as the "Year of AI Global City Leap" and established the dedicated department 'AI Semiconductor Division' to create an AI industry ecosystem. By attracting the Fabless AI Seongnam Research Center at Sungkyunkwan University’s Bundang Campus and the Sogang University Pangyo Digital Innovation Campus, the city is building education and research infrastructure. It is also accelerating the cultivation of AI talent with global competitiveness by preparing the KAIST Seongnam AI Education and Research Facility and the establishment of a science high school.
