Job Posting for Experienced Professionals in Nuclear Business Development and Licensing
Recruitment for SMR Team within Energy Solutions Division
Hiring In-House Licensing Experts with Nuclear Expertise
SK Innovation is hiring new personnel for business development and licensing to secure nuclear power contracts. This strategy is interpreted as a move to actively embark on the small modular reactor (SMR) business by securing in-house talent rather than relying on the workforce of its existing partner, the US-based TerraPower.
On the 15th, SK Innovation posted a job announcement on its recruitment website for an experienced position in nuclear business development and licensing. The qualification requirements include 7 to 15 years of experience in the relevant field, with preference given to those with experience in SMR, large nuclear power plants, or power generation-related business development and licensing. The selected personnel will belong to the SMR team within SK Innovation Energy Solutions division. This team will be responsible for nuclear power plant business development, bidding tasks, and negotiations with external stakeholders including global partners.

In 2022, SK Innovation kickstarted its SMR business by investing $250 million (approximately 300 billion KRW) in TerraPower, a US-based SMR design company. Through this recruitment, SK Innovation intends to deploy its own personnel with nuclear expertise internally. This is expected to accelerate related business activities.
SMRs are small nuclear reactors with reduced power capacity and size compared to conventional nuclear power plants, making them advantageous for construction near power demand sites such as cities and industrial complexes due to their smaller site requirements and higher safety. The United States is also interested in this industry. Under the Trump administration's second term, the US has pursued an energy policy emphasizing 'America First,' actively utilizing SMRs, liquefied natural gas (LNG) carrier ships, and other technologies.
