First Nationwide Tour Begins with Visit to South Chungcheong Province
"South Chungcheong Must Prosper for Korea to Thrive"
Lee Cheolwoo, governor of Gyeongbuk Province, is speaking at a press conference held at the Chungnam Provincial Government Press Center on the 15th.
Lee Cheolwoo, the Governor of North Gyeongsang Province and a presidential primary candidate for the People Power Party, visited South Chungcheong Province on the 15th as his first nationwide tour stop.
At a press conference held at the provincial government press center, Governor Lee expressed a strong commitment to advancing key regional issues, such as the establishment of Asan Police Hospital and the second Central Police Academy.
Governor Lee stated, "I visited South Chungcheong first because I believe that this region is at the center of the nation and that Korea will prosper only if this area thrives," adding, "Chungcheong, Honam, Busan-Ulsan-Gyeongnam, and Daegu-Gyeongbuk must be integrated into a city with a population of over five million to compete with the Seoul metropolitan area."
He continued, "We must move toward a decentralized constitutional amendment that transfers central government authority to local governments," and emphasized, "Strengthening the competitiveness of local regions is also key to solving the national low birthrate issue."
Regarding the National Assembly Sejong Office, Governor Lee criticized, "There is land available, but construction has not even begun, which is a dereliction of political duty," and added, "I will seek to start construction of the Sejong Office as soon as possible and consider relocating the presidential office to South Chungcheong in the future."
Prior to the press conference, Governor Lee held a closed-door meeting with Governor Kim Taeheum to discuss current issues.
It was reported that Governor Kim offered words of encouragement to Governor Lee regarding his presidential bid, wishing him success.
