On the morning of the 15th, the Yongin Dongbu Police Station in Gyeonggi announced that it conducted a search and seizure at Ourhome Yongin Plant 2 in Namsa-eup, Cheoin-gu, Yongin City.
The police deployed about 10 investigators to secure documents and electronic information necessary for the investigation, including the entire process, safety and health-related training materials, and risk assessment reports. Based on the seized materials, the police will investigate the exact circumstances and determine responsibility for the accident, planning to criminally prosecute those involved. Along with the search and seizure, a joint on-site investigation will be conducted with the police forensic team and related organizations such as the Korea Occupational Safety and Health Agency.
Earlier, on the 4th at 11:23 a.m., a male worker in his 30s, Mr. A, suffered an accident where his neck was caught in machinery on the fish cake production line at Ourhome Yongin Plant 2, a processed food factory. Mr. A was transported to the hospital in a state of cardiac arrest and received treatment, but ultimately passed away on the 9th, five days later. Following the death, the police have criminally charged one plant manager with involuntary manslaughter and launched a full-scale investigation. The police also identified that on the 6th of last month, a female worker in her 30s of Russian nationality, Ms. B, had her left arm and hand caught in the machinery on the fish cake production line.
The Ministry of Labor has initiated an investigation into violations of the Industrial Safety and Health Act and the Serious Accident Punishment Act, separate from the police investigation.
On the 9th, the day Mr. A passed away, Gumi-hyun, CEO of Ourhome, expressed, "I sincerely offer my deepest condolences and sympathy to the bereaved family, and also extend apologies and comfort to the colleagues at the site." Ourhome has stated its intention to cooperate sincerely with the investigations by the police and the Ministry of Labor.
