The Financial Services Commission announced that it held a 'Roundtable on Enhancing Financial Accessibility for Persons with Disabilities' on the 15th, chaired by Vice Chairman Kim So-young, in commemoration of the upcoming Disability Day on the 20th.
At the roundtable, a demonstration was conducted by a visually impaired participant using the recently improved 'Voice One-Time Password Generator (OTP) for the Visually Impaired.'
Following this, disability organizations, welfare and education field experts, and related agencies discussed strategies and measures to enhance financial accessibility for persons with disabilities, and gathered opinions on policy directions and additional tasks.
In her opening remarks, Vice Chairman Kim stated, "The government has made multifaceted efforts together with the financial industry to improve financial service accessibility for persons with disabilities." However, she pointed out, "Many persons with disabilities still experience inconveniences when using financial services, and some are not well aware of policies that have already been implemented." She emphasized, "It is necessary to properly inform about helpful policies and actively promote their use according to the situation."
Accordingly, to dramatically improve financial accessibility for persons with disabilities in the future, the government plans to pursue policies in three directions: resolving inconveniences in financial transactions for persons with disabilities, revitalizing products and services exclusively for persons with disabilities, and preventing crimes targeting persons with disabilities such as financial fraud.
