"A Memorable Sentence from a Book in Handwriting"... Kyobo Handwriting Contest Accepting Entries Until June 17

This contest was created with the purpose of finding relaxation and sharing deep thoughts through the experience of writing by hand in an era accustomed to digital environments. Since its inception in 2015, the total number of participants has reached 110,000.

Applicants can submit a handwritten sentence from a book that left a strong impression on them. The contest categories are divided into children, youth, general, and foreigner sections. Entry forms can be obtained at nationwide branches or downloaded from the Kyobo Bookstore campaign website. Completed entries can be submitted at branches, via email, or by mail.

Three hundred participants who pass the preliminary round will receive a Kyobo Bookstore gift card worth 10,000 KRW. Finalists will be selected through a total of three rounds of judging, including expert evaluation and customer voting, with 11 grand prize winners and 23 runner-up winners chosen. They will receive gift cards worth 1,000,000 KRW and 200,000 KRW respectively, along with prizes. This year, the group award prize money has been increased from 200,000 KRW to 500,000 KRW. The judges' award, which recognizes unique handwriting, will be given a gift card worth 100,000 KRW.

One of the grand prize winners will be selected to create the 'Kyobo Handwriting Font.' This font will be distributed under an open license, allowing free use in design, advertising, publishing, web content, and more.

At the Gwanghwamun Kyobo Bookstore, a handwriting experience zone will be operated. Visitors can experience handwriting on-site and submit entries to the contest, and various events related to transcription will also be held.

A Kyobo Bookstore official stated, "Even in the digital age, handwriting is a warm language that conveys emotions and connects relationships," adding, "Through the 11th Handwriting Culture Promotion Campaign, we aim to widely promote the value of handwriting that conveys hearts beyond generations, languages, and borders."
