Hosted by Jaseng Medical Foundation and sponsored by the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs and Jaseng Korean Medicine Hospital, this contest was organized to artistically highlight the lives of unsung heroes in everyday life in commemoration of the 80th anniversary of Liberation Day. Participants expressed the stories of those who dedicated themselves to the nation, such as soldiers, police officers, firefighters, and independence activists, through paintings, and a total of 18 winning works were selected through judging.
The judging was conducted in three rounds, with art experts including Seo Jin-seok, director of Busan Museum of Art, and Lee Dong-guk, director of Gyeonggi Museum, evaluating the works based on artistic quality, communicative power, and creativity. The winning works will be exhibited at the JS Museum inside the Jaseng MediBio Center until July 31.
The contest had a total prize money of 20 million KRW, with the grand prize winner receiving the Minister of Patriots and Veterans Affairs Award. The grand prize was awarded to Kang Yong-jin’s work titled "Danji (斷指) Spirit, Dae Han Guk In." Meanwhile, Jaseng Korean Medicine Hospital is a national hospital that inherits the management philosophy of 'Geunghuljisim (矜恤之心, a heart of compassion to help those in need)' and the spirit of the independence movement. It contributes to expanding respect for those who dedicated themselves to the country and spreading veterans’ culture. In particular, it has continuously carried out medical, living, and housing support projects for patriots, veterans, independence activists, and their families, and last year, it received the '25th Veterans Culture Award' hosted by the Ministry of Patriots and Veterans Affairs.
