'Jeongnamjin Water Festival in Songkran' Promotional Booth
Jangheung County in Jeollanam-do (Governor Kim Sung) announced on the 15th that the Global Festival Exchange Delegation of the Jeongnamjin Jangheung Water Festival held an official exchange event with the Songkran Festival at Siam Square in Bangkok, Thailand, on the 13th.
The official event was attended by Jangheung delegation members including Governor Kim Sung, Jangheung County Council Chairman Kim Jaeseung, and county council members. From Thailand, Mr. Nat Kruthasoot, Director of the Tourism Authority of Thailand, along with the Deputy Director and other officials, participated.
Both sides opened the official event with a "hand-washing performance" symbolizing the Songkran Festival's wishes for good fortune and cleansing of misfortune, and a "phytoncide water toast and water-splashing performance" representing longevity, health, and healing, which are the meanings of water in the Jangheung Water Festival.

At the "Jeongnamjin Jangheung Water Festival in Songkran" promotional booth, a variety of events introducing the Jeongnamjin Jangheung Water Festival, a K-summer festival, to local tourists interested in K-culture will be held until the 15th.
The exchange project between the Jeongnamjin Jangheung Water Festival and the Thailand Songkran Festival is actively underway, as Jangheung County was selected for two consecutive years (2024-2025) in the "Jeollanam-do Regional Festival Globalization Exchange Public Contest."
This official visit was arranged as a return visit in response to the visit of Songkran Festival officials to the Jangheung Water Festival in 2024, based on the memorandum of understanding signed last June at the proclamation ceremony of the "2024-2026 Jeonnam World Tourism and Culture Expo" among Jangheung County, the Tourism Authority of Thailand, and Jeollanam-do.
The Jangheung Water Festival and the Thailand Songkran Festival share the common theme of "water." Both sides are working together with the goal of developing into even more prominent global festivals through exchange and cooperation.
At the Jangheung Water Festival, "water" symbolizes healing, health, and longevity, while at the Thailand Songkran Festival, "water" carries the meaning of washing away misfortune and wishing for blessings. Both festivals share the commonality of blessing others through water.
A county official stated, "This official visit provided a great opportunity to promote the Jeongnamjin Jangheung Water Festival to the world," and added, "We will make every effort to promote the festival so that young tourists interested in K-culture will remember and visit the Jeongnamjin Jangheung Water Festival, Korea's representative summer festival."
This year's 18th Jeongnamjin Jangheung Water Festival will be held for nine days from July 26 to August 3 at the Tamjingang River and Phytoncide Forest Woodland area in Jangheung County, Jeollanam-do. The county plans to continue strong cooperation between the two festivals through inviting a traditional Thai performance troupe and operating a Songkran Festival promotional booth.
