On April 11, Dobong-gu Mayor Oh Eon-seok expressed this while participating in the 'Population Issue Awareness Relay Campaign.'
The 'Population Issue Awareness Relay Campaign,' organized by the Ministry of Health and Welfare and the Korea Human Resource Development Institute for Health and Welfare, is being conducted to build consensus for solving population issues and to create a sustainable society.
Mayor Oh joined the campaign upon the nomination of Dongdaemun-gu Mayor Lee Pil-hyung and nominated Yongsan-gu Mayor Park Hee-young and Yeoncheon County Governor Kim Deok-hyun as the next participants.
The district is actively responding to the population decline issue by implementing customized policies for each life cycle stage, from pregnancy to childbirth and child-rearing.
A representative example is the 'Dobong-type Teacher-to-Child Ratio Improvement Project.' This project reduces the number of children assigned to one daycare teacher to ensure children receive safer and more attentive care.
As a result, both the birth rate increase rate and the total fertility rate successfully rebounded as of 2024.
