Gyeonggi Province will conduct the '2025 World Heritage Namhansanseong Utilization Program' from April 25 to June 22.
This program, under the theme 'Cultural Experiences Enjoyed in the Green Forest,' will be divided into themes such as ▲Haenggung Educational Experience ▲OUV Exploration Team ▲Namhansanseong Expectation, and will operate on weekends and public holidays.
The Haenggung Educational Experience is a permanent program designed to help participants understand the fortress, recognized for its Outstanding Universal Value (OUV). It includes activities such as 'Fortress Model Building Experience,' where participants build model fortress walls; 'Historical Figure Traditional Costume Experience,' where participants wear traditional costumes of historical figures from the Joseon Dynasty and stroll around Haenggung; and 'Traditional Bookbinding Experience' and 'Traditional Bookmark Making,' where participants create traditional Joseon Dynasty bookbinding and bookmarks.
The OUV Exploration Team is a program to learn about the Outstanding Universal Value (OUV) of the World Heritage through the 'O (Oh!) U (Our) V (Treasure)' exploration team. Participants become Suwosa (military officers) guarding Namhansanseong, explore the fortress walls, and watch and experience traditional martial arts demonstrations such as Bongsool (staff fighting), swordsmanship, and archery. Stories about Namhansanseong from military experts are also included, enhancing participants' interest and deepening their understanding of Namhansanseong.
The Namhansanseong Expectation program is a climate crisis response program designed to raise awareness of the impact of the climate crisis and the importance of heritage protection. It includes the 'Namhansanseong Plogging Campaign,' an environmental program where visitors pick up trash using biodegradable plastic bags; 'Sock Yarn Keyring Making,' an upcycling experience using discarded sock yarn to cherish and protect the environment affected by climate change; and 'World Heritage SOS - Family Climate Crisis Experience Exploration,' where participants learn about the impact of the climate crisis on World Heritage sites with climate change experts.
This program is free for everyone to participate in. The Haenggung Educational Experience is available on-site every Friday, Saturday, Sunday, and public holidays from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. The OUV Exploration Team runs once each in the morning and afternoon on weekends in April and May and requires advance reservation. The Namhansanseong Expectation program operates on the last weekend of May and weekends in June.
Kim Byeong-man, Director of the Gyeonggi Province Namhansanseong World Heritage Center, said, "We hope that families, couples, and friends will enjoy the precious value of cultural heritage and the beautiful nature through various programs at the green and lush World Heritage site, Namhansanseong."
