Gumi City Council Opens 286th Extraordinary Session... Reviews 13 Ordinance Bills

Policy Proposals Including a Dedicated Tourism Organization and Improved Treatment for Volunteers

Park Kyosang, the chairperson of the Gumi City Council in North Gyeongsang Province, commenced official council activities by opening the 286th extraordinary session, which will be held for five days from the 14th to the 18th.

During this session, a total of 13 agenda items will be reviewed, including 9 ordinance bills (7 of which were proposed by council members) and 1 consent agenda. The council will also begin drafting the 2025 administrative audit plan.


During the five-minute free speech session held prior to the first plenary meeting on the 14th, a series of policy suggestions were made.


Kim Nakgwan argued, "It is necessary to establish a dedicated organization to revitalize Gumi's tourism industry and address youth housing issues," while Choo Eunhee emphasized, "A reallocation of one-time budgets is needed to improve the treatment of volunteers."


Jung Jiweon urged, "Effective policies must be developed to expand employment opportunities for citizens amid the economic downturn."


Each standing committee will also be actively engaged. On the 15th and 16th, the committees will deliberate on ordinance and consent bills while simultaneously drafting the administrative audit plan.


The schedule for on-site visits is also noteworthy.


The Planning and Administration Committee will visit the Senior Job Creation Support Center and the Gumi Public Memorial Hall on the 16th, while the Industry and Construction Committee will visit the LIG Nex1 Gumi Plant and the Agricultural Products Distribution Center on the 17th to inspect current issues.


The council plans to finalize the session by making final decisions on the agenda items reviewed by the standing committees at the second plenary meeting scheduled for the 18th.


In his opening remarks, Park Kyosang expressed, "I extend my deepest condolences and sympathy to those who lost their lives in the recent large-scale wildfire, to those who died in the line of duty during firefighting efforts, and to the displaced residents who lost their homes," and urged, "The executive branch must do its utmost to protect the safety and property of citizens by strengthening monitoring activities for wildfire prevention and updating response manuals."
