Four Otters Spotted by Resident While Walking Along Jagwangcheon
"Efforts to Keep Jagwangcheon Clean" Attract Otters
Busan's Gijang-gun announced on the 14th that Eurasian otters, a designated natural monument, were recently discovered in the area of Jagwangcheon in Jangan-eup, where the 'Jagwangcheon Local Garden' registration project is currently underway.
On the evening of the 10th, a resident walking along Jagwangcheon spotted four otters, filmed them with a smartphone, and reported the sighting to the Forestry Park and Jagwangcheon Garden Team.
The otter is classified as a Class 1 Endangered Wildlife Species by the Ministry of Environment and is also designated as a natural monument. It is known to inhabit only clean, first-grade water. In Jagwangcheon, otters were found near Byeongsan Reservoir, in front of Jungang Park, and around Gangbyeon Bridge.
Jagwangcheon is a representative urban ecological stream in Gijang-gun, and the county is making every effort to register the area as a local garden by utilizing its excellent ecological resources.
County Governor Jeong Jongbok stated, "The efforts of Gijang-gun residents to keep the stream clean have attracted otters here," and added, "We will continue to protect otter habitats while keeping the Jagwangcheon Garden clean and beautiful."
