The Gwangju City Government announced on the 14th that it will conduct a "Focused Inspection of Safety and Health Obligation Implementation for Serious Accident Prevention in the First Half of 2025" until the end of June.

This inspection is being carried out to create a safe working environment for employees at Gwangju City, its affiliated agencies, and business sites, and to ensure that citizens can safely use public facilities.

The targets include 1,012 major facilities and projects operated or managed by Gwangju City and its affiliated public institutions, with 105 departments related to serious industrial and citizen accidents subject to inspection.

The inspection will cover: ▲ whether a safety and health management system has been established ▲ identification and improvement of harmful and hazardous factors ▲ implementation of education and training for workers ▲ response systems in the event of an accident, among others.

Through this inspection, the city aims to enhance on-site understanding of the Serious Accidents Punishment Act, and based on the inspection results, will promptly implement corrective measures, provide training for responsible staff if necessary, and improve systems, thereby establishing a practical prevention system rather than limiting the effort to a simple inspection.

In particular, as safety accidents continue to occur at industrial sites and public facilities, and legal responsibilities are imposed under the "Serious Accidents Punishment Act," the city plans to guide all departments to thoroughly comply with laws and fulfill their safety management obligations.

Bae Bokhwan, Director of the Citizens' Safety Office, stated, "Through this inspection, we will do our utmost to create a safe environment that protects the lives of citizens and workers from serious accidents," and urged, "Since prevention is more important than post-accident response, I ask all public officials to maintain a strong sense of safety and responsibility."
