The Comprehensive Island Development Project is a national initiative jointly promoted by the Ministry of the Interior and Safety and the Ministry of Land, Infrastructure and Transport, aimed at improving the living conditions and welfare of residents in island regions. The county completed the third phase of the project in 2017 and has been pursuing the fourth phase since 2018, with a total project budget of 118 billion KRW planned through 2027.

Last year, 14.9 billion KRW was invested to complete 48 projects, including the maintenance of the Dongbaek District's small fishing port in Geumil. This year, various community-focused projects will be promoted, including the expansion of the pier in Sorangdo and Wolsong-ri in Geumil-eup, expansion of the pier in Yejak-ri and Cheongbyeol in Bogil-myeon, maintenance of the pier in Bukgori and Chungdori in Nohwa-eup, road and LPG pipeline maintenance in Heugildo, Gunoe-myeon, creation of scenic areas on Noeulgil in Cheongsan-myeon, construction of a trail entrance in Yeoseo-ri, and paving of village roads in Modong-ri.

The county plans to maximize the effectiveness of the projects and resolve long-standing local issues by actively reflecting residents' opinions from the initial planning stages. In addition, 5.7 billion KRW in county funds has been separately secured to promote projects directly related to residents' daily lives and income, such as small fishing port development, village access road maintenance, and improvement of tourist site environments, which were excluded from the national project.

County Governor Shin Woo-cheol stated, "Through the Comprehensive Island Development Project, we hope to improve residents' quality of life by enhancing living environments and to help vitalize the local economy through the smooth production and transportation of marine products. We will do our best to make island regions vibrant and desirable places to live."
