Fully Funded by the National Government for Two Consecutive Years
Seolbongsan Firefly and Honeybee Habitat Restoration Project Selected Again
The restoration project of firefly and honeybee habitats on Seolbongsan Mountain in Icheon City, Gyeonggi Province, will be fully funded by the national government.
On the 14th, Icheon City announced that it has secured the entire 450 million KRW budget for the "Seolbongsan Firefly and Honeybee Habitat Restoration and Expansion" project from the national government, having been selected again this year for the Ministry of Environment's "Ecosystem Conservation Charge Refund Project," following last year.

This project is linked to the firefly habitat and ecological learning center established on Seolbongsan Mountain last year. It aims to improve the existing valley stream environment to create a natural ecological space equipped with an ecological stream, small organism wetlands, forest observation points, ecological trails, and wildflower gardens.
The selected project site connects the ecological forest path stretching from Woljeon Art Museum to Seolbong Seowon Confucian Academy. Through a pleasant walking trail accompanied by the sounds of forest and water, it will link to the natural ecological space, and in conjunction with Woljeon Art Museum and Seolbong Seowon, it will be developed as a course where visitors can experience the culture and history of Icheon, according to the city’s plan.
Previously, the city has been continuously promoting improvement projects for Seolbong Park, a representative local park. In the first phase, the city completed streetscape improvement projects including the firefly habitat, ecological education space, and ecological forest path. Currently, in the second phase, the city is carrying out a park renovation project utilizing the site of the demolished Gombangdae and the slopes to make the park easily accessible for all, including those with mobility challenges.
Kim Kyung-hee, mayor of Icheon City, said, "Seolbong Park is a landmark representing Icheon, but there are still many hidden gems. We will do our best to develop it into a healing space where people can fully experience nature even within the city."
