SNL Appearance Hong Jun-pyo Calls Han Dong-hoon a Narcissist... Uses Harsh Words Toward Lee Jae-myung

Acrostic Poems with "Myeong Taegyun" and "Yeonyanggaeng"
Official Presidential Candidacy Announcement Scheduled for the Afternoon of the 14th

Former Daegu Mayor Hong Joon-pyo, who recently resigned from his mayoral position to run in the 21st presidential election, likened Democratic Party presidential pre-candidate Lee Jae-myung to a 'yangXX'.

On the 13th, he appeared on the variety show "SNL Korea - The Branch Manager Goes," released by Coupang Play. There, Hong compared the presidential election to a convenience store part-time job. When actress Ji Ye-eun, playing the store manager in a mock interview, asked, "What do you think of pre-candidate Lee Jae-myung?" he responded as above. Regarding former Minister of Employment and Labor Kim Moon-soo, who declared his presidential candidacy before him, Hong said, "When he was a member of the National Assembly, I gave Kim Moon-soo the nickname 'a man with a clear soul,' but as he got older, it became murky." He also described former People Power Party leader Han Dong-hoon as a "narcissist."

Uses Harsh Words Toward Lee Jae-myung In a three-line acrostic poem demonstrating quick wit for a convenience store part-time job, former Mayor Hong responded to the prompt word "Myeong Taegyun" with, "Myeongsa-gi shook the Republic of Korea," "Taesanmyeongdongseoilpil (a great expectation or rumor results in a poor outcome)," and "Gyun means bacteria." When asked, "Do you know what the minimum wage is?" Hong answered, "A little over 10,000 won," adding, "That's too much," and "If the minimum wage is set too high, small business owners will struggle." In response to Ji Ye-eun's explanation that the interview was an analogy for the presidential election and the convenience store part-time job represented the presidency, he replied, "Then you have to do it for five years."

In a three-line acrostic game to demonstrate quick thinking like a convenience store part-timer, Hong responded to the keyword "Yeonyanggaeng" with "Don't act," "Don't yield," and "Once you pass menopause, this is the only time." For the next keyword, "Myeong Taegyun," he said, "Myeongsa-gi (a famous trick) shook the Republic of Korea," "Taesanmyeongdongseoilpil (making a big fuss but ending with trivial results)," and "Gyun means bacteria."

Regarding preparations for the presidential election, he explained, "Since I ran in the 2017 presidential election after Park Geun-hye's impeachment, I always have to be prepared for the worst-case scenario of impeachment," referring to the period starting three months before the National Assembly passed the impeachment motion. Finally, when asked if he had any last words, he added, "I hope the country becomes stable."

Meanwhile, on the afternoon of the 14th, Hong will declare his presidential candidacy and hold an election office opening ceremony on the 4th floor of the Daehwa Building in Yeouido. At the launch event, with the slogan "The 7th Republic, Opening an Era of Advanced Nation," Hong is expected to present his presidential vision and pledges, including constitutional amendments and political reform plans. Before his candidacy announcement, Hong plans to meet with People Power Party emergency committee chairman Kwon Young-se and floor leader Kwon Seong-dong at the National Assembly in Yeouido, Seoul, to inform them of his presidential run and visit the party headquarters to encourage party staff. Additionally, at the launch event, he will present his presidential vision and pledges under the slogan "The 7th Republic, Opening an Era of Advanced Nation."
